Every time I use a tool that forces me to do everything through AI, I think WALL-E might have been a warning, not a kids’ movie.
I use AI constantly. But I think we’re starting to confuse convenience with intelligence. Some friction is useful because it makes us understand the work, make decisions, and question the result.
Companies make this worse when they reward AI usage itself. A five-minute task becomes an agent. A spreadsheet nobody needs gets generated. A useless report becomes proof of progress. Very modern. Zero ROI.
Bad output is only part of the risk. I’m more concerned about people slowly losing the habit of thinking critically about the work at all.
Good AI should help us do more while keeping us engaged in the decisions that matter. It should make us more capable, not more passive.
